The New Taipei City (NTPC) Government celebrated at an inauguration ceremony of the NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center on August 10, 2018. This ceremony was hold with Mayor Eric Li-lun Chu, Rudy Valdez, Director of Solutions Architecture, Training and Certification of AWS, Douglas Tong Hsu, Chairman of the Far Eastern Group, and Chi-Yuan Huang, Chairman of FCC Partners, and Teresa Yang, Chairman of Board and CEO.
Mayor Eric Li-lun Chu said, “New Taipei City is considered a constantly-evolving urban community with a strong tie to its roots. The administrative team at NTPC is committed to create a trade-friendly growth environment for investors, and integrate support and resources from the private sector. For three years in a row, NTPC was rated the top in “Investment Development Performance Among All Local Administrations” by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Since 2011, NTPC has enjoyed a net increase of over 20,000 newcomers in the community of entrepreneurs, a capital increase of NT$400 billion (US$13.11 billion), and business sales revenue of NT$4.7 trillion (US$154 billion). There are currently 13 investment projects targeting public estates, promising close to NT$40.2 billion (US$1.32 billion) in new capital income.
New Taipei City has reinvented its industrial economics, infrastructure services, social welfare measures, governance efficiency, and smart city, helping the city garner hundreds of awards for its initiatives, locally and throughout the world. These projects compellingly state the case for NTPC as a place with a strong talent pool, tremendous industrial output, and investment potentials. Through AWS’s wide range of cloud technologies and services, including Internet of Things (IoT) and big data core services, the NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center will help integrate various aspects of the ecosystem to accelerate innovation. This will create a cluster effect, attracting more talent, funds, technologies, market possibilities, and international visibility. This new establishment also provides more support and opportunities for the entrepreneurial endeavors of future generations. The inauguration of the NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center marked a significant milestone for both New Taipei City and Taiwan.”
Douglas Tong Hsu, Chairman of the Far Eastern Group, pointed out that the industrial environment of New Taipei City is suitable for developing the NTPC-AWS joint innovation center. He said, “This chance would create a new economic transition for over 270,000 enterprises and further fostering unicorn startup companies. With the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) and AI, mobile phones would be considered as walking computer and walking information to connect and use information everywhere. Therefore, it is a trend to utilize cloud computing throughout the industry. We need to work hard to be informatization to catch up and continuously making progress in order to connect to the world. It is our pleasure to welcome AWS located in New Taipei City and Tpark.” He emphasized that Tpark is a smart campus and knowledge base of information technology for enterprises and talent people to innovate their business model.
Chi-Yuan Huang, Chairman of FCC Partners, a major partner of the NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center said, “It is now-or-never for Taiwan to develop and fortify a new, cloud-based business model. I have high hopes that NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center will be a great draw to the world’s topmost cloud platform services helping traditional industries and startups switch gears to the new cloud frontiers. AWS joint innovation center is located at Tpark and it is a world-class intelligence park.”
On the day of the inauguration ceremony, a seminar on Cloud Computing Innovation Trends will take place, featuring keynote presentations from Rudy Valdez, Director of Solutions Architecture, Training and Certification of AWS; and Dr. Tzi-Cker Chiueh, Vice President and General Director of Information and Communications Research Laboratories at Industrial Technology Research Institute. The speakers will share their insights on the versatile applications of cloud technologies and the trends of digital transformation process. From this seminar, enterprises in New Taipei City can learn about the cloud development and how cloud computing becomes the game-changer for industrial transformation and enhancement.
