Far Eastern New Century Corporation (FENC) was awarded Second Prize at the Innovation Award “Best CO2 Utilisation 2025”, held in Cologne, Germany. The award recognizes FENC’s groundbreaking CO₂-based non-isocyanate polyurethane technology—FENC® TopGreen® AirTek PU. Notably, FENC is the first Asian enterprise to receive an award since the award was established.
Organized by the renowned German research institute nova-Institute, the award celebrates outstanding technologies that achieve carbon capture and utilization, or convert carbon dioxide into high-value-added products. The award ceremony took place on April 29 during the CO₂-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference, with Dr. Fanny Liao, Executive Vice President of the Far Eastern Group R&D Center, accepting the prize on behalf of FENC. As the only finalist from Asia, FENC’s innovative product earned the Second Prize, showcasing its leadership in global innovation for sustainable materials. The FENC® TopGreen® AirTek PU technology utilizes industrially captured carbon dioxide(CO₂) as a raw material and converts it into high-performance elastic materials, which not only achieve the goal of carbon capture and utilization but also can be widely applied in footwear, stretch fabrics, waterproof-breathable membranes, and synthetic leather. This innovative solution eliminates the use of highly toxic phosgene and isocyanates traditionally found in conventional polyurethane(PU) manufacturing, offering a safer and more environmentally friendly production process. Compared to traditional thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU), AirTek PU achieves up to a 58% reduction in carbon emissions while maintaining both performance and functionality. It represents a breakthrough that combines eco-friendliness, non-toxicity, carbon reduction, and high performance.
FENC remains committed to advancing low-carbon materials and the circular economy, driving the world toward a net-zero future.
