Taipei, July 10 (CNA) The British Office Taipei thanked Taiwan in a Facebook post Monday for the textile technology that provided the English football team with environmentally friendly football jerseys.

The post was made after England advanced into the semifinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, with a 2-0 win over Sweden Saturday.

The world cup kicked off June 14 and runs through July 15.

The office thanked the team's Taiwanese supporters and expressed hope that the team can make it into the finals while wearing the jerseys researched and developed by Taiwan.

At least half of the 32 national teams attending the Russia World Cup were suited up with the environmentally friendly kit, including the teams of England and Belgium, which have made it to the semifinals, according to information from Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration (EPA).

Teams sponsored by the international sportswear brand Adidas, including those from Belgium, Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, Germany, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Sweden, Spain and Russia, as well as teams sponsored by Nike, including England, Brazil, Portugal and Saudi Arabia, all wore jerseys made using Taiwan techniques, EPA data shows.
